Angst for the Memories

It's been a long time in the running
But I knew it'd come to this
Where instead of finding things to miss
I'm willing this instead
So I gathered up your letters
And trekked up to the beach
And when the smoke had turned to ashes
I swear I heard them speak
They said "A rambling man don't stutter
over things he'd often miss, 
so darling pull yourself together
'cause god knows we all wish that this town would die."
So I got my things together and laid them at your feet
But the smiling coals had long since blown and again I faced defeat

So I put my hands together and I wondered what it'd take
For this town to die
Since then I've often wondered
What could and might have been
Had I seen the need to fan the flames instead of having it condemned
But a rambling man don't stutter so I killed them flames with sand
and the boot print I left on the beach in the night 
Took the moonlight but it read
"Darling don't be so dramatic, hell you knew this day would come
On a lonely night in September
until the hour brought the sun to watch it die."
This town will die.
